Logic Problem - Dust the cob webs off your brain!

Read this logic problem very carefully.

You are on a horse, galloping at a constant speed.
On your right side is sharp drop off, and on your left side is anelephant traveling at the same speed as you.
Directly in front of you is a "galloping" kangaroo (for lack of a better word) and your horse is unable to overtake it.
Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the Kangaroo.
What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation?

Answer ....Get your drunken butt off the merry-go-round.

A couple more days to go!!!!

September 2nd is the big day for Cody. My baby is going to get some manners. I will miss him greatly. He was a bad boy the other day so he will be spending the remainder of his time before boot camp alone in a paddock. Oh come on, do you think that I am that mean? His buddy is in the next paddock so it is not that bad. Good thing I don't have kids because I have a feeling they would walk all over me.

While I was getting ready for work, Ian was putting the horses out for the day. It was like every other typical sunny Monday day. I was running about one hour late for work and as I was just about to open the door to get into my car I see Cody running by with a lead rope hanging from his chin. He was having a good ol' time bootin' across the field with three of the mares in toe. As Ian went to remove his halter, Cody decided to take off to visit his friends, leaving Ian empty handed....and really peed!

I took about ten minutes for Cody and friends to stop their dancing in the fields but once they stopped Ian was able to catch him and of course he marched him right back to the barn and into his stall. He so knew he was a bad boy!

I probably will not have many of these types of adventures to report on in the next month or so as Cody will not at home however I am sure he will be making lots of new friends at Bridewood. Hopefully he will want to come home in the Fall.

Competitive Trail Ride

This weekend I am volunteering at a competitive trail ride in Merrickville. I will be assisting with the vet checks. This should be fun. Although it will be a long day, I am told that they feed you and give you plenty of fluids. Who is going to work harder? Me or the horses!

I find this sport very interesting. However, there are a few reasons why I have yet to participate as a rider at one of these event. The first reason being that I don't own a trailer and the second reason is that there are only about three to four rides a year in my area.

Not having a trailer is a big problem. Having to hire someone to transport you and your horse to the event can become very costly because when you are said and done, you are looking at about $200 to $300 for the one day. That seems a little excessive to me!

An alternative might be to buy a property that is even more remote then where we are now and ensure that said property backs onto the Trans Canada trails. That would be sweet!

Back in the saddle

OK So I got off to a slow start riding Cheyenne this summer, due to knee and shoulder injuries, but I am making up for it now. The funny thing with Cheyenne is that she is reluctant to do any work at the beginning.....how do I know this? Well, as I walk up to her in the field with the lead rope and halter, she proceeds to run around me in circles for about two minutes (thanks for the self-inflicted warm-up, Chey!) and then she gives in and walks up to me, lowers her head and off we go to the barn to tack up.

Once the riding session begins, she is just like my dog. They figure if they do it all at once and do it real fast, life will be easy. NOT! Cheyenne is just like me.....she wants to get a lot done in the least amount of time. So of course this is what I have been working on these past couple of days. No rushing....Low and Slow!!!! No need to rush to the finish line. EASY GIRL!!!! Her jog is so slow it is awesome. The problem is her lope. I know she can go slow but maybe it is something I am doing....mixed signals or something....but all she wants to do in the beginning is go, go, go!!!! It takes a couple of laps to get her to slow down and collect herself. It is probably something I am doing?? Who knows. Hopefully a couple of tune-up lessons from Jen will help me with this issue ;-)

By the end of the ride, Cheyenne is having a blast. How do I know this? Just ask anyone that rides with me and my horse. She is the only horse that sings. Ok so she doesn't sing but she humms. No joke!

Although I love my mare, I can't wait to ride Cody. Geldings....they are less temperamental. Unlike Cheyenne, Cody will not swing into heat at the drop of a hat or pin his ears and try to swing his butt over to drop kick the horse behind us on the trail. Yes, this is what Chey is capable of. She doesn't need to see a male horse to kick start her heat cycle...she just needs to be on the same block to sniff out the males in the neighborhood. If she were human and it was up to her, she would probably own she own brothel!

Laugh Out Loud!

You may be a cowboy/cowgirl if.........
Your horse trailer cost more than your house trailer.
Your bathtub is a stock tank.Your horse brush is also your hairbrush.
You smell more like a horse than your horse does.
Your idea of fun is being tied to a two-thousand pound raging bronco.
You do all your gift shopping at the feed and tack store.
Your favorite fragrance is leather.
You refer to your spurs as the family silver.
